Gold has always been at the heart of Venetian craftsmanship, symbolizing the wealth and magnificence of the Serenissima Republic. The goldsmithing tradition in Venice has ancient roots, dating back to the Byzantine period when the city became a center of refined artistic production. Skilled artisans created extraordinary works using techniques passed down through generations, as evidenced by the gilded details of the Basilica of San Marco. This mastery in the use of gold not only adorned Venetian churches and palaces but also the artifacts that represented the power and grandeur of the Serenissima.
The 24K Gold-treated dial of the Nereide Aureo is a tribute to Venetian craftsmanship. Created through a tumbling process and galvanic treatment, it harkens back to the ancient gilding of precious metals from the Serenissima Republic. The pure 24K gold treatment not only provides the same aesthetic appeal as traditional gilding but also offers superior durability and uniformity over time.
Nereide Aureo is the first model to feature this new bracelet, inspired by the works of Renaissance sculptor Jacopo Sansovino, renowned for his craftsmanship and attention to detail. Composed of five links - two polished and three satin-finished - it offers a perfect balance of elegance and robustness. The solid clasp, with a double finish and micro-adjustment, ensures a comfortable and secure fit, ideal for diving enthusiasts.
The case back of the Nereide Aureo pays homage to Venetian elegance, depicting the majesty of the main nave of the Basilica of San Marco. This building is renowned for its walls adorned with gold leaf, a symbol of the exquisite art of Venetian gold beaters. The engraving on the case back not only strengthens the model's connection to our homeland but also celebrates Venice's rich artisanal tradition.
The 24k gold treatment on the Nereide Aureo dial is delicate and requires meticolous care throughout production. Each metal disc undergoes a tumbling process to achieve a rippled and intentionally imperfect surface. Then, the disc is immersed in an electrolytic solution containing pure gold particles. Through electroplating, these particles evenly coat the disc, creating a durable and brilliant gold layer.
After the galvanic treatment, the dial is coated with transparent protective varnishes. These varnishes protect the gold layer from scratches, oxidation, and other damages, ensuring superior durability and resistance compared to traditional gilding methods. Each stage of the process is followed by rigorous quality checks, structured in four main stages, to guarantee a flawless and uniform surface. This approach not only evokes the aesthetic finish of traditional gilding but also surpasses it in terms of durability and uniformity.
